In collaboration with the Komaru-Koutsu Foundation, Sonoma State University invites you to a celebration of language, culture, and creativity at the Japanese Language Speech Contest on October 29, 2024! This is a unique opportunity to witness talented individuals showcase their Japanese language skills while forging connections between Japanese culture and our vibrant Sonoma County community.

 

Itinerary

  1. 3:00 PM - 3:30 PM: Registration and Check-in
  2. 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Speech Presentations (3-8 minute duration)
  3. 5:00 PM - 5:30 PM: Language Exchange Activities
  4. 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM: Guest Speakers' Insights
  5. 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM: Awards Ceremony and Closing Remarks

 

How to Participate

  1. Eligibility: Any person aged 15 and older who has not stayed in Japan for more than one year. Participants will be selected in advance by a subcommittee of the Speech Contest Committee.
  2. Speech Requirements:
    1. Topic: Transportation as a tool for global engagement, with a focus on traffic and road safety.
    2. Language: Speeches must be prepared in Japanese and must include a written copy in both English and Japanese (Word limit: 800-1200 characters).
    3. Duration: Each speech must last between 3–8 minutes.

 

Registration

  • Deadline: October 13, 2024.
  • Benefits: Each participant will receive a certificate of participation, and winners will receive prizes from the Komaru-Koutsu Foundation.
