Coffee & Culture: Japan Recap

It was so good to see everybody at last week’s Coffee & Culture. We hope everyone was able to enjoy the treats and conversations! Coffee & Culture is an event that IEEC hosts every other Thursday, so keep an eye out for the next theme to take place on Thursday, October 3rd!

Gilman Scholarship Deadline Oct. 10

The Gilman Scholarship is a scholarship awarded to applicants who are looking to develop the future of American leaders. This scholarship is available to students of all backgrounds and all studies. This scholarship allows students to pursue study abroad opportunities where they develop individual growth. If this scholarship sounds like it would be a good fit for you, you can find more information as well as the application on the Gilman website here.

Scholarship Application Workshop

Need some help with your scholarship applications? Come on down to International Hall 107 on Thursday, September 26th from 12-1, IEEC will be hosting a Scholarship Application Workshop. Bounce ideas off your peers, learn how to structure a successful application, or ask questions about processes!

Japanese Language Speech Competition Application Open

October 29th 3-7pm

Know some Japanese and are interested in testing your knowledge? Komaru-Koutsu Foundation and Fukuyama City University are partnering with Sonoma State University to host a Japanese Language Speech Competition. This competition allows participants to showcase their skills while also appreciating Japanese Culture. Speeches must be on the topic of transportation. The application can be found here! We look forward to hearing everybody’s speeches!

Upcoming IEEC Event: Academy of Science Trip

Friday, October 25th, Deadline to sign up Wednesday, October 10th

We are lucky to be close to one of the largest natural history museums in the world, housing over 46 million specimens either alive, fossilized, or preserved. IEEC is arranging a trip to this beautiful academy and welcomes all to join! It is important that students receive the opportunity to experience the richness and diversity provided by the Academy of Sciences, whether the students are international or local, the event will be open to all those interested. The final day to sign up for this event is October 10th, after which more details will be to follow. This event will be an all-day trip! Hope to see you there!

Application Workshop Wednesday

Want some advice while working on your applications? IEEC is holding an Application Workshop on Wednesday September 25th from 2-3pm. Come on by to work on your application, ask questions, or even confirm that your application looks good.

Program Highlight: EM Normandie 

Application Due Tuesday, October 1st

Studying Business? The EM Normandie program could be the one for you! Through this direct exchange program with EM Normandie, you can choose between 5 different locations. It’s a great way to cultivate your international relations and learn about other cultures! The application for this program is due October 1st, so make sure to get those in!

SSU Event of the Week: Movies at the Green: IF

Saturday, September 28th, 5-8pm, Weill Lawn

Enjoy watching the movie on the big screen on Weill Lawn. From writer and director John Krasinski, IF is about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends — and what she does with that superpower — as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids.
